Project: Art-Residency



Artist-in-Residency :

One of the most significant activities of Kekkeyellam Foundation is Artist-in-Residency program.

Artist-in-Residency provides a platform for the artists from different cultures to live like in a commune, work independently and together, understand the local traditions, be part of the contemporary art practices, and to interact meaningfully with the art audience. It would simultaneously create situations for co-participation and collaborative art practices.

Artists are offered multiple opportunities- to individualistic studio environment, post studio practices, to creatively indulge in collaborative and collective works, to partner with social art enterprising with the support of the local organisations.

Joining the Artist-in-Residency Program:

The Artist-in-Residency is scheduled to commence in (Under Construction). Artists practicing in different artisticmedia and disciplines are welcome to be part of the program.

Artist-in-Residency would support to create a mosaic of various art practices, and to experiment with new dynamics, and to catalyze meaningful exchange of innovative ideas. To achieve this objective, participation of artists engaged in different disciplines like painting, photography, sculpture, installation, video, dance, music, and literature will be ensured. Kekkeyellam Foundation envisions to construct a platform where artists working in various mediums and pursuing divergent art practices could be part of a dynamic exchange and experimentation.

 

Structure of the program—major activities:

  • Artists continue their own artistic vocation
  • Present their works for discussion among the co-participants
  • Collaborative projects
  • Public art projects taken up in collaboration with the local village administration
  • Organize exhibition of their works During their tenure.
  • Conceive new projects and implement jointly with the support of local people
  • Undertake frequent village walks, meet local people, interact, as part of community engagement
  • Take active role in the Artists workshops, seminars and interact with other artists and intelligentsia
  • Discuss issues focusing on mankind's biggest challenges in the contemporary world, present artists solutions
  • Contribute to the " Art Red" - a compendium of writings, notings, graphics, photographs, drawings, sketches, paintings
  • Visit Art Galleries, Craft centers, Libraries, Centres of Performing Arts,
  • Contribute to the program "Agri-Culture"
  • Attend cultural programs, film festivals, theatre performance
  • Participate in the other ongoing projects of Project-Red

 

The services, facilities and support provided would include :

1. Picking up of the Artist from the Kochi International Airport
2. Twin sharing Accommodation and food
3. Access to a modern modular kitchen/pantry
4. Support for creative activity that would include supply of material and required services and availability of studio space
5. High speed broadband connection, and Library
6. Space for dance, music and other forms of art performance

Working language:

English would be the working language. Even though the local people speak Malayalam, English is well understood.

Eligibility:

- Artists in any field in the age group of 22 to 55 are to be considered as participant in the program
- While artists trained in Art institutions are preferred, self trained artists can also apply.
- Ability to communicate in English is a must.
- The program is ongoing, (Under Construction) there is no application dead line.
- Willing Artists have to complete the Online Application form. The Selection committee will evaluate the applications and select the participants. Selected artists will be informed well in advance, so that they can plan their travel conveniently.

On receiving the application, the Selection Committee reviews documents, including the sample works uploaded with the online-application. Successful applicants are informed within 2 weeks after receiving the application. Furtheron, they are provided an official letter of invitation and other required documents.

The selected participants are offered admission to a unique art-residency experient of modules, ranging from 15 days to 3 months. The programme does not provide the residents any financial assistance. The resident artists has to cover their expense on Travel, accommodation, supplies and food.

How to Reach:

By Air:- Nearest Airport is Kochi International Airport is 23kms.
(The participants will be picked up from Airport by the Hospitality staff of Project -Red).

By Train:- The nearest main Railway station is Eranakulam junction. Pickup is arranged from the Railway Station.
